The best line that never made it into one of my plays is... I thought I had brain cancer this morning. But then I realised I’d just had a coffee.

My best or worst moment working in the theatre was... in the STC production of The Shape of Things 2003. I choked on an Orio in the final scene, it was literally wedged in my throat and I could not get it out. The audience thought it was all part of my characters painful finish. Then cast member Nick Flint came out and slapped me on the back and the Orio went flying into the audience and I completed the speech. I thought, I may die here.
