Interview with David Milroy

My first theatre experience was… w atching pink poodles dance in the Manning Hall. I was six and they looked like fairy floss.

If I was a character in a play I’d be… t he naked old man who got washed in Castellucci’s Julius Ceasar.

I hate theatre when…  the play is long and the seats are hard.

Playwrights who inspire me…  Romeo Castellucci and new writers like Kamarra Bell-Wikes.

My most memorable moment working in the theatre was...  seeing Windmill Baby performed in Tokyo in Japanese by Hisako Okata.

My last big laugh was…  seeing 300 hundred people sing Auld Lang Syne in 300 different keys.

My last big whinge was…  Christmas shopping and before that, Christmas shopping.

The direction of indigenous theatre in 21st century Australia is…  to boldly go where no one has been before.

Why is theatre important?  It’s smelly and sweaty and you can’t change the channel or turn down the volume.
