My first theatre experience was…seeing
“The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams when I was in my early
twenties (had never been to the theatre) – I cried in the dark at the
sad wonderful lives and then decided that I would work in theatre -
somehow.
If I was a character in a play I'd be… “dad”, who I just played in three different seasons of The Yum Yum Room... and I loved being him!
I hate theatre when… well actually, never. Each theatre experience is what it just is, whether I am into it or not...
Playwrights who inspire me …. My Playwright God – Tennessee Williams – completely!!! What a guy!!!
The best line that never made it into one of my plays is ... mmm, sorry, they all have made it in... to date
My best or worst moment working in the theatre was ...
hearing a large audience laugh throughout my first play ( I was blown
away; it wasn’t meant to be that funny!) power blackout big time on
opening night of an early play of mine... it didn’t come back on for
ages; many people had left
Heroes or villains - whose side are you on… love them both... usually
My last big laugh was about…
the silliness a friend and I were up to not long ago in a cafe in
Adelaide... we were really silly and I laughed so much that I cried
My last big whinge was about…
foreign vessels having oil spills in Australian waters; the poor, poor
creatures who suffer terrible suffocating deaths from oil
The role of theatre in 21st century Australia is…
to be a wonderful entertaining art form for everyone; low cost,
accessible, real, inclusive, honest and necessary ... once again
