VICTORIA BENEDICTSSON was born in Sweden in 1850 and killed herself in a hotel room in Copenhagen thirty-eight years later. She is known chiefly for her novels, in which she depicted the inequality of marriage and the absence of rights for women.

CLARE BAYLEY is a playwright and former theatre critic. Her first play, Northern Lights, was described in a glowing review by Guardian critic Michael Billington, as '...a rare play: one that teases big issues out of intimate relationships.' Other plays include: Blavatsky, The Shift and The Woman Who Swallowed a Pin which was nominated for the Peter Brook Empty Space Award.
