Shylock Play, The

An adaptation of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice

Shylock Play, The $19.95 ex GST
$21.95 inc GST
A radical new adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most controversial plays.

When 78-year-old Ruth, a survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, visits the present day Venice Ghetto and meets a group of actors rehearsing The Merchant of Venice, she is confronted by the terrible story of ‘The Jew‘ which touches her own life.

In this emotive and provocative play, Julia Pascal re-works the controversial classic, transposing the theme of Anti-Semitism raised in The Merchant of Venice into a contemporary setting. By placing her own text within the original, she challenges the portrayal of ‘The Jew’ and produces a thought-provoking new work.
