Bloody Chamber, The

Angela Carter / Bryony Lavery

Bryony Lavery brings to thrilling life Angela Carter’s tale of seduction, perversion, blood and love (itself a radical re-thinking of the story of Bluebeard) in a shockingly beautiful portrait of the corruption of adolescence in this visceral and visually stunning production that incorporates film, music and live action.

She’s seventeen years old and a virgin. She’s poor. The marquis is fifty and rich beyond imagining. He marries her and takes her to his castle, half on land, half on sea. It’s like a fairy tale! The honeymoon has hardly begun before he must leave her with his keys and this instruction: "All is yours, everywhere is open to you—except the lock that this single key fits. You must promise, if you love me, to leave it well alone."

Review
Carter's lush prose, well served by Bryony Lavery's adaptation, is moist with symbolism -   Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

Dracula & Frankenstein: Two Horror Plays

Bryony Lavery/ Lisa Evans

Dracula & Frankenstein: Two Horror Plays brings together two classic horror tales, updated for the 21stcentury and adapted for the stage by two of Britain’s leading playwrights.

Dracula by Bryony Lavery

A bloodcurdlingly brilliant new version of Bram Stoker's timeless novel. Count Dracula is one of the most powerful creations of horror ever conceived, yet his lonely and deadly pursuit of immortality seems to touch a human nerve that transcends time and culture. This modern adaptation by award-winning Bryony Lavery promises to scare audiences whilst enthralling them with spectacle and breathtaking magic.

Frankenstein by Lisa Evans

'Shelley's story is slickly reborn by Evans for the 21st century'.  The Times

Framed from a modern day perspective, this is Frankenstein as you’ve never seen it before… Mary is imprisoned in a present-day psychiatric hospital, convicted of murdering her baby daughter. During her incarceration she becomes obsessed with Mary Shelley’s famous novel. The novel comes to life within her imagination, and we are left to question just who the real monster really is, Mary or Frankenstein himself…

Stockholm

Bryony Lavery

Meet the couple every couple wants to be. Attractive and immaculately turned out, they are the perfect team. Tomorrow they will be in Stockholm, a city where, in summer, the sun shines 24/7 and sometimes it’s dark all day long. Today it’s his birthday and she’s going to give him all his presents and treats and surprises.

Treading a fine line between tenderness and cruelty, Stockholm reveals a relationship unravelling. It’s beautiful, but it’s not pretty.

Review
Bryony Lavery's needle-sharp script toys with the audience like a horror movie. Up there with the very best of the year so far, this is a terrifyingly erotic and haunting 70 minutes… -  Guardian

Uncle Vanya

Anton Chekhov (adapted by Bryony Lavery)

One of the high points of world drama, Chekhov's bittersweet tale of frustrated lives and unrequited loves - by turns witty, playful, nostalgic and tragic - is captured in all its complexity by Bryony Lavery's spirited, sharply-written adaptation.
