Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt had been lead dancers with the Royal Ballet for a dozen years when the company’s home—the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in London—was closed for renovations.

Facing two years of touring in productions they considered pretty dull, they decided instead to form their own company in 2001 and met with quick success. They picked a big theater for their debut, filled the house and won critical acclaim.
