Author Profile

Philip Parsons, born in Adelaide in 1926, was an academic, critic, director, dramaturg and publisher. He married critic and writer Katharine Brisbane in 1960 and together they founded Currency Press in 1971. They won the Sydney Critics' Circle Major Award for services to Australian theatre in 1992. Parsons was the Chairman of Currency Press until his death in 1993, a few weeks after receiving the final contribution to the authoritative theatre reference guide Companion to Theatre in Australia, which he had spent the last seven years of his life working on and of which he is the General Editor. Also shortly before his death he was made a member of the Order of Australia for the work of Currency Press, and later in 1993 the NSW Ministry for the Arts instituted an annual Philip Parsons memorial lecture on the performing arts.

Victoria Chance was the Publisher at Currency Press for many years.
