Australian Playwrights’ Festival

Connecting, Collaborating, Celebrating

The Australian Playwrights’ Festival is an initiative from Currency Press to mark 50 years as a performing arts publisher. The festival will be a public event to celebrate the contribution of our playwrights to the national conversation. It will mix panels and one-on-one discussions that showcase our playwrights and the roles they have played in reflecting our society and defining who we are.  The festival will look backwards, but also forwards, while debating where we are now and what we can achieve, and will bring together a diverse range of established and emerging writers.

When: Friday 18th-Sunday 20th March 2022

Where: Paddington RSL, 202-232 Oxford Street, Paddington, NSW.

Tickets go on sale 1 November 2021.

‘Currency Press is in a unique position to co-ordinate a Festival of Playwrights in 2021 because they have served this industry impeccably for fifty years and because they are one of the most respected organisations in the Australian Playwriting landscape. They remain contemporary, responsive, innovative and strategic, and without them Australian culture would be irreparably diminished.’  Alana Valentine (playwright)

‘…after a pandemic that has all but ended the careers of many writers, we need an event that simply affirms the importance of the playwright, the figure behind the actors and the scenery, whose words may flutter in the memories of many theatregoers, but whose faces they rarely know.’  David Williamson (playwright)
