ANTHONY CROWLEY began his career as an art director. He went to become an award-winning playwright, composer, designer, actor and director – creating theatre that has been performed all over the world. Playwriting credits include The Frail Man, Shadow Passion, Redemption, Pretty White Lies and the Velveteen Undertow, When Sand Becomes Glass, Motor-mouth and Suck-face; Apocalyptic Love Story and The Melancholy Keeper of the Deep, Deep Green. His musicals (book, music and lyrics) include The Wild Blue, Villain of Flowers, Nathanial Storm, The Journey Girl, Vincent: An A cappella Opera, Tribe, Super-Freaks and Motor-mouth Loves Suck-face; An Apocalyptic Musical. He has received numerous awards and prizes including the Wal Cherry Playwrights Award, an Australian Musical Foundation Scholarship, an Opera Australia Young Artists Residency, the Sumner Locke Elliot New Dramatists Prize, the R.E. Ross Trust Award, the Pratt Prize for Musical Theatre and the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Best Musical Theatre Script, as well as being short-listed for the Louis Esson Prize for Drama. His devised theatre includes several artist-in-schools residencies as well as his groundbreaking performance art installation, Picasso’s Children. He is a former Artistic Director of St. Martins Youth Arts Centre and a former music tutor for NIDA.
