Donna Abela is an award-winning playwright and sought-after dramaturge. Her play Jump For Jordan premiered at Griffin Theatre company and was presented in Spanish at the 2018 Women Playwright’s International Conference in Santiago, Chile. Her adaptation Monkey … Journey to the West was part of the 2014 Brisbane Festival, and 2015 Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Festival programs. Other plays include Spirit, Caylee’s Ukulele, Aurora’s Lament, Tales from the Arabian Nights and Mrs Macquarie’s Cello. Donna has won four AWGIE Awards, the Griffin Playwriting Prize, and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Award for Drama. She has received two nominations for the New South Wales Premier’s Literary Awards, two for the AWGIE Award for Children’s Theatre, and one each for the Patrick White Award and the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Play. Donna is a founding member of PYT | Fairfield, and the playwrights’ alliance 7-ON. She also serves on the Australian Writers’ Guild’s NSW Events Committee, and the Artistic Advisory Council for Milk Crate Theatre.
